 About the Therapist

Maria graduated in1991 from the University of Reading with a BA Honours degree in Linguistics and Language Pathology.

She also qualified at the same time as a full practising member of the Royal College of Speech and Language Therapists (RCSLT) and has remained a member on this basis ever since. During her time as a member Maria has contributed to the work of the Royal College by her active participation in several Special Interest Groups (SIGs) notably as Chair of the Learning Disabilities and Challenging Behaviour SIG, and as Treasurer for the London and South East Secondary SIG.

Maria has been registered with the Health Professions Council (HPC) since it came into being.  Before that, she was registered with its predecessor, the Council for Professions Supplementary to Medicine (CPSM), when the requirement for registration with CPSM was first introduced for speech & language therapists.

Since qualifying Maria has worked extensively both within the NHS and as a private practitioner, gaining experience in assessing and treating a wide variety of communication disorders including difficulty with the voice,  with expressive language and/or with understanding of language.

In 1991 she also set up the Berkshire Clinic to offer a service to patients seeking an alternative to the NHS

As a result of her working experience Maria has developed her specialist knowledge to treat or work in most areas eg:

*    Autistic spectrum disorders 
*     Complex paediatric conditions
*     Stroke, Motor Neurone disease and Parkinson’s
*     Nurseries, pre-schools, schools & Colleges
*     Behaviours which challenge services
*     Stammering
*     Impairments of hearing, vision and other sensory restrictions
*    Physically handicapping conditions
*    Speech production difficulty
*    Disorders of voice
*    Syndromes associated with language difficulty eg Downs, Turners, Williams, Landau-Kleffner

*    Many other conditions giving rise to communication difficulties , both routine & rare.
